SAY NO!!! To Early Marriage of our Girl Child.

Child marriage is driven by poverty and has many effects on girls’ health: increased risk for sexually transmitted diseases, cervical cancer, malaria, death during childbirth, and obstetric fistulas. Girls’ offspring are at increased risk for premature birth and death as neonates, infants, or children.

Husseina Activista Kogi in Lokoja, Kogi State Nigeria, narrated a story of four of her secondary School friends by who were given out to early marriage of age 17,19,18 and 16 respectively on the same day to men old enough to be their father.

The one that saddens my heart is one of them who who lost her child in the process of child birth and lost everything

Poverty and insecurity is sure factors that triggers early marriages for the girl child

Communities and rural areas where these happens should be sensitized on the effect, the impact of early marriage for the girl child. Religious leaders and traditional leaders should not b left out of the scene because most at time they are like the supremacy in such Community or society.

As Advocate we will all start from ourselves, the neighborhood who practices such act of abomination
